What is Eco-rate?

Eco-rate is a comparison shopping website that rates the ecologic and economic costs of household product ownership. Eco-rate’s comparative rating method identifies the ecologic and economic intersect as the best-value marker for today’s conscious consumer, the point at which environmentally preferable products are also cost-effective.

A product’s impact on the environment relative to that of other comparable products, quantified primarily in terms of natural resources consumed; waste generated or diverted; and/or toxins released as a result of a product’s manufacture, use and disposal. The higher the rating, the smaller the product's impact is on the environment.

A product’s consumption of natural resources relative to that of other comparable products. The higher the rating, the more efficient (less-consuming) the product.

A product’s degree of toxicity relative to that of other comparable products. The higher the rating, the less toxic the product.

A product’s cost of ownership, including its purchase price and cost of operation, relative to that of other comparable products. The higher the rating, the more cost-effective the product.

A product’s purchase price relative to that of other comparable products. The higher the rating, the lower the purchase price of the product.
